William Card 'RECENT WORK (UNCANNY VFX). 2015-20'

William produces site-specific installation artwork that brings the notion of the site and presence of the work into question. The recent work is exhibited online and on-site as motion tracked, animated CGI/video composites alongside 3D printed sculptures. These artworks find uncanny potentialities in relation to overlooked locations, architectural details and unplanned accumulations of modifications and adaptations to the built environment.

The work draws attention to specific locations and shifts the border between what is perceived to be virtual and actual. Visual effects technologies create the impression that unknown, yet familiar forms are located within the screen-space of the videos, creating new associations, fantastic implied narratives and extra-dimensional implications in apparently mundane spaces.

William Card is currently a lecturer at the University of Suffolk, teaching Fine Art and Architecture. His interests include the uncanny, affect in art and visual effects technologies.
