The Art Station is a non-profit arts organisation, developing a new workspace for the creative industries in Saxmundham and as a base for an arts programme for the local community and coastal Suffolk.
We started offering the local community, contemporary art installations and an-all ages art education programme in June 2017 with plans to develop Saxmundham station building as a new arts venue. Tragically, in Feb 2018 a devastating fire destroyed the building and we had to go back to the drawing board.
We’re now excited to be developing the first floor of the amazing 1954 post office into a new creative space for local artists, makers and tech developers alongside an exhibition/event space and other facilities.
Our new space creates a supportive network right in the high street of this historic market town, where an increase of economic and cultural activity will have a positive impact. Our art programme offers opportunity for learning as well as supporting the creation of new art work and tech. We have work experience opportunities, internships and volunteering – engaging young people with their future; the high street, town and wider opportunities.
If you have any thoughts, questions or would like to get involved, please get in touch.
“The LEP regards the project as having significant social impact through creating cultural and enterprising activity, volunteering and work experience opportunities within the town and surrounding areas. It will have a positive impact on the high street of Saxmundham bringing creative vibrancy to this location.”
