Lol Sargent (2019) 'PROCREATION'

‘A man and a woman appear at each end of the space and stand motionless not understanding why they are there as they contemplate each other’s form. Slowly they walk toward each other. The woman holds something which she offers to the man as they momentarily merge into one another. Then they part and walk away from each other, neither understanding what they have just done…’

This work is a contemporary moving portrait interpretation of the ancient mythical story of Adam and Eve, depicting the moment they first meet, then couple, therefore creating the eternal sin from which we are all descended.

Lol has an MA in Fine Art from the Royal College of Art where he was tutor of Audio Visual from 1986-1999, and since 2016 has been a visiting lecturer at the college on the Digital Direction MA. He exhibited Procreation: Adam and Eve as a 2 channel video installation at the 2019 Venice Biennale and has recently received a number of international film festival awards which include; a double semi-finalist in the Sweden Film Awards and Best Director in the Amsterdam World International Film Awards.
