The Art Station is proud to present Poor Form, a solo exhibition by acclaimed sculptor Karen Densham, opening on 3rd May 2025 at The Old Bank, Saxmundham.

This new body of work brings an innovative and provocative approach to ceramic sculpture, redefining traditional boundaries with wit and satire.

Curated by Clare Palmier, Director of The Art Station, in collaboration with the artist, Poor Form expands on Densham’s 37-year practice, which subverts the conventions of ceramic art. This exhibition continues The Art Station’s commitment to showcasing contemporary sculptural practice that challenges perceptions of craft and fine art.

In Conversation: Join us to hear artist Karen Densham talk about her current exhibition Poor Form, in conversation with Tessa Peters and Crispin Kelly, on Saturday 24th May at 2pm, Market Hall, Saxmundham. Follow link below to book!

In Conversation

Densham’s work navigates the intersection of kitsch and critique, exploring themes of cultural norms, etiquette, and sexual innuendo. Embedded in seemingly ornamental and diminutive forms is a profound commentary on societal anxieties, power structures, and the darker undertones of the everyday. By pushing the material possibilities of clay – manipulating scale, glazing, and ceramic transfers – Densham’s sculptures transcend traditional techniques, opening new dialogues on what ceramic sculpture can be.

In Poor Form, expect works that balance the playful with the unsettling, the humorous with the subversive, inviting audiences to look beyond the decorative and engage with the hidden tensions embedded within these intricate forms.

Poor Form is supported with funding from Arts Council England and Henry Moore Foundation. The Art Station really appreciate this support.
