Karen Densham’s ceramic sculptures are rooted in a combination of familiar domestic ephemera and popular idioms – playfully adapted to subvert their character or meaning. These slight adjustments can draw out unexpected relationships and connections within the common-place, adding an undertone of political satire.
An Essex girl based in Suffolk, she studied ceramics at the Royal College of Art, London, as well as The Polytechnic, Wolverhampton, and Harlow, Essex. Karen has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions , including Richard Saltoun Gallery, the V&A, Serpentine, Whitworth Art Gallery, ICA London, Kath At Home, Jugg Art Foundation Gallery, The Minories Gallery, and the Museum of Contemporary Ceramic Art (Japan). Her work is included in public and private collections and has been the recipient of numerous awards and prizes.
